Who turned out the sun?

This week:

FUIMOS AL CAMPO, PO!
It was fun. There were animals and Catholics everywhere! Then we accidentally walked like 3 hours in the dark to get to the bus stop (10.6 kilometers... #LegDay). Good times.
But it was actually pretty deep and spiritually metaphorical, and we saw an enormous shooting star. Testimonies were strengthened.

We also went to a little town called Curacautin to find nuevos, and we did! But they don’t want to be baptized yet?? wierd.

But Bruno wants to be baptized. He didn’t quite do it yet because he was in the hospital for a hot second, but this week for sure. July 14. Sí o Sí.

Also Alejandro. What a champ. He was like, "What do I need to bring to my baptism?" and we said, "Only your delightful presence." So hold on to ya buns for this Saturday. :) Or maybe pray, because we have a testimony of that stuff.

Also, we’ll just be hanging in there for Cambios. Nobody knows what could happen. But we hope that we stay together. :)

In other news, I encourage everyone to read the parable of the laborers in the vineyard and then the talk of the same name by Elder Holland. It blew my tiny mind nugget. :))) I love it.

We did Celebrate the 4th of July o sea America’s Birthday!! We had rootbeer floats, sang patriotic songs, and then worked in stripes and the color red. It rained. Hard. So that was a bonus. We hart
America.

Someone asked for photos, soooooo.... We went nuts. Any questions? :o]

Birthdays and Palos all around!!

3 July 2018

Cue the footage of Americans walking on the moon. America the Beautiful plays

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA. I do love America, but recently something strange has been happening.......
I also like South America, the slightly shorter, more spicy cousin of Sweet Sweet Free Country USA?? Weird right?
But we will be celebrating the 4th with as much American gusto as we can mustard.

This week:
Bruno moved to YUMBEL (curse you San Sebastian!!)
But thanks to your magic prayers, he’s going to come back to be baptized this Saturday. #thetruechurch #Tolhuaca

Alejandro, our best most flaite compadre, o sea investigador tan maquina si cachai, wanted to get baptized even sooner, so, pray for his date: 14 of July. He’s kind of like a precious unicorn, so, we’ll see what happens.

We’re teaching an amazing FAMILY if you can believe it, their names are Patricio and Claudia, and they like the Plan of Salvation. They said they’d like to know a little more before being baptized, so hang in there everyone.

Also, all these good things are happening and more are on the way. Hermana Hansen and I (#The Walking Sisters) are praying to stay together and see all the miracles we’ve got coming! Join us pls.

Today we had a conference in which Elder Packer (jr) and his wife came and visited only the southern halfish of the mission, and it was only for an hour, so there was much speculation, and for a hot second many people thought we would be splitting the mission and joining Osorno, but thank goodness he only came to dar Palos o sea chew us out a little bit. But in a good constructive way guided by the spirit. Which was kind of the focus - that the missionaries need to teach better with the spirit. It was good.

Eve Alexandra Baer
We keep having good things happen here in Tolhuaca, the work is always a little crazy, and that’s why I know it’s true. Also there was an earthquake for a hot second one night. Bien fuerte, de hecho. We were like... "What do we do?" and we just decided to stay in bed.

Also, congrats to all the old people who had children! Your little offspring look cute! Nice work all around. We’ve been praying for little Eve, so it’s good to know prayers are answered.

Really put the SHOW in TALENT SHOW

This week we worked hard and then Saturday night we had the branch talent show. It was actually fun! At first we were nervous because out of nowhere this group showed up and set up a bunch of expensive looking equipment and we were like, "Who invited and will be paying for them???" and turns out they’re members.... just..... not on Sundays. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They sang some traditional Chilean songs, and it was neat. Videos attached.
We also participated for a hot second and did a stupid little act where I was the arms of Hermana Hansen while she broke eggs and mixed flour and stuff in like a little cooking thing. I dun know how to explain it well, but it was pretty funny.

Sunday, we were sitting in Sacrament meeting when in walks one of the most fliate tipos that I’ve seen. And then my companion was like, "THAT¨S ALEJANDRO!" Shouted in a whisper because we were in a reverent place. He said afterwards that he wants to change his life and he’s pretty sure that the Church is where he can do it. So he rode his bike like 5 miles to church. Alone. In the Cold. At 10:00 in the morning. Permiso - al agua por fis. Feel free to pray for him. And also Bruno, because that boy gon’ be baptized!

We worked the rest of the week. Obviously. We’re missionaries and all that.
Also a bird pooped on my companion. So rude.

One of the things I notice in my studies of the Holy Bible is that (almost always) the words Christ says to heal people are commands, which, if obeyed bring blessings and healing. Interesting. The commandments really are for our benefit. ; for example, in the miracle of the lame man healed on the Sabbath (John 5) Christ says to the man, "Rise, Take up thy bed and walk" (a command). The man could have said, "What are you crazy, I just told you I can’t walk even to the pool!?" But he decided to be obedient to Christ and got right up. Also I love the story of the blind man in John 9. So good. That guy is legendary.

Will you guys also be obedient and receive the power of Christ to become whole? Pls do it.

That is all.

I Don’t Even Like Fish

This week we ate the most expensive salmon I’ve ever had. And what are the odds that it was cooked in lemon caper sauce?? It was good and terrible. If only fish weren’t so fishy.

This week we taught our new and amazing investigator named Bruno. He’s 10 and tan maquina! He basically taught US the first lesson. Also he’s going to teach us how to make paper cranes. :)

Also, we found a baby dog (puppy?) It was tiny and also so cute and it was just shivering so hard and it followed us around and then we took photos. oops. Defs gonna have fleas. The next day in the Multi-zona, the Mission’ doctor had a presentation about the dangers of street dogs and was like, "DO NOT TOUCH THE DOGS! You’ll get rabies!"
And I said 🙃 @ me next time.

Talking of the Multizona, it was pretty good. They showed us an amazing video that’s called "Clay Christensen on Religious Freedom." It really stuck with me what he said at the end, "If you take away religion, you can’t hire enough police." How true! Religion is freedom. I do love freedom. It also reminded me of what Pahoran said to Moroni in Alma 61, that the spirit of God is also the Spirit of Freedom. God is great like that.
Then right after that President was like, "Now we will take a slightly longer break while you all get your immunization shots. 😀. " They literally pulled back a curtain to reveal a nurse and all her pointy needle things. What a treat. Also, there are no bandaids here. It’s just cotton taped to your arm. #blessed

I’m reading in the Holy Bible right now. I like it a lot. What would you say if I told you I think that in John 6 the miraculous feeding of the five thousand is also symbolic of the restoration?? Am I as crazy as I think I am, it’s very possible that yes.
The gospel is so perfect. I think it’s probably true.

Okay. nuff words. let’s see the photos.

Doggies.

Do Chickens Have Large Talons?

* refers to this Napoleon Dynamite scene.

12 June 2018

This week:

-It rained more

-We found BRUNO! He’s 10 and he wants to be baptized.

-We had lunch with algunos viejitos, son TAN tiernos, y tan locos, pero tan buenos...tan amables... this older member couple always gives us lunch one day of the week, and they always, always give us an enormous bowl of boiling hot soup, and then afterwards an even more enormous plate with a roulette mix of mashed potatoes or rice with an egg or a hot dog. What a delicious treat. We are so grateful for the members who give to us so abundantly. They just show their love and devotion through food. The secret to eating it all is that you put half of it in your napkin😛.
But this week, the menu was soup, rice, and egg, but......they just put the uncooked egg right onto the rice and we said, "Oh my, Hermanita, it looks.............wow. delicious."

And then we just couldn’t help but recall that part of Napoleon Dynamite where he works at the chicken farm. 🙃 Eggs is good eatin’.

-A Missionary from our Sector returned from his mission and is now working with us a Tons. His name is Byron. That is not a lie.

-We had district conference. It was good! I have resumed my reading in La Santa Biblia and I like it a lot. That Jesus guy sure teaches good. But seriously. The parables are so cool. It’s neat that all that Christ taught like a million years ago still applies to us. I love especially the parable of the sower. Truth is, problems like rocks, thorns, hard ground, or anything else that might prevent us from receiving the gospel seed can be removed with work, faith, and the application of the atonement of Jesus Christ. Additionally, the same natural elements, like the scorching sun, that killed one seed, helped another to grow into a strong, and fruitbearing tree. or ......."a shrub!"

Anyways. See you all in a little while.

-Hermana Baer

That ain’t fog. That’s smoke.

She just sneezed. Don’t worry. it’s not permanent.

The bus ride entering part of Temuco. I hope it works and it’s not too barfy.

Something tells me that you’re all wet

It’s raining here in the south. So I bought the rain boots of a 5 year old. Because turns out my feet are still abnormally small for Chile.

But that didn’t stop us from MAQUINANDO. The rama had an activity about Family History. They built a little Temple and it was all very nice. We saw some of the Haitian investigators there too!

Then we got back to knocking doors and taking names.

Oh yeah, we had Cambios and Hermana Hansen and I will continue working in TOLHUACA. We have an investigator that I just wanna baptize SO BAD. His name is Glixie Elvis Lagos something something. He is so so fabulous.

We are working so hard to help him understand the importance of the Gospel.

In my studies, I’ll be finishing the Book of Mormon in SPANISH. wow. que fuerte. it’s basically the same as English, but with more ¡ and ¿

Something that I noticed this week was that Mormon and Moroni and amazing. Also that in Mormon 5: 17-18 we learn the clear and obvious difference between Christ as a guiding shepherd and Satan as a vindictive Dictator. Maybe sometimes we feel restricted by commandments but the truth is you have the commandments and you have your agency. Also, Satan hates your agency. The Gospel is freedom. Wickedness never was happiness/freedom.

Be free. But not too free

-Hermana Baer

Here are some terrible photos of us after THE MOST ENORMOUS LUNCH OF MY LIFE EVERY SATURDAY. I was literally DYING. and Also at the activity. Please have mercy and only post the best photos. pls. pls bae.

Hasta la Visa, Baby

Good news! I am now legal in Chile! Mostly because I have a Visa now. It was a serious process, but none of that matters now.

This week. What happened? Nothing. There was      So.        Much.       RAIN.
and none of that Utah type rain. This is the wet stuff. Turns out winter starts early in this city.

Funny experience: We've been working to reactivate a member, and we called her Sunday morning before church to remind her that the Gospel's true so she should come and renew her covenants, and she said rather groggily, "mmfff, ya, okay I'll be there. Yawn." So we waited in the chapel and the meeting began and we never saw her enter. After the sacrament, we snucked out to call her and be all like, "where you at?" and she definitely answered and said, "Hermanas, I'm here in the chapel listening to the talks....." and we said, "oh... why are you answering the phone??" And then we died of embarrassment. mostly because it was a disaster and the whole rama knew that we called her during the meeting.

Thank you all so much for the support and help and prayers.

Apart from that. Nothing. So much nothing.

Not even photos. Or are there? You'll just have to wait 9 months and see.....

Get in Loser, We’re going shopping

We went shopping today.

It was really weird because we went to Temuco and went to PORTAL, the mall. We walked in the front doors and we were in a completely different world. I almost died of joys. I accidentally bought a shirt. Also we went to a burger joint and had a hamburger!! It was divine.

I BOUGHT A ROOTBEER. I don’t know if you know how big that is.
I’ll tell ya, It’s big, people.

This week, Leonardo decided that he may leave to live in Temuco because there have been a lot of problems with his house. It will be sad to see him go, because he was making such great progress in his prayers and in his reading of the Book of Mormon. But, these things do happen.

I too, like to read in the Book of Mormon. Sometimes it’s the highlight of my whole day. I’m finally at all the war chapters, and what has really grabbed my attention (besides the fact that Moroni is basically Captain Ancient America) is the difference that one person can make. Alma 46:9 "Yea, and we also see the great wickedness one very wicked man can cause to take place among the children of men." We are one person, and even if we don’t feel like it, our actions make a difference. Maybe not in the way we hope, (like maybe *cough, cough* baptisms) but they always have consequences. Moroni was also just one very righteous man, and look what a difference he made! What kind of difference will you try to make? The good kind, or the bad kind?

Funny translation error: in my talk last Sunday, I said "Dios tiene un PAN perfecto por cada uno de sus hijos." that definitely means that God has a perfect Bread for everyone. (PLAN not PAN dain it).

Apart from studies and the tragic passing of investigatores, we contacted the whole week. Sooooooo....oo..o that. I wish I could tell you more things but everyday is the same day. yay.

Okay see ya in like 9 months.

Wanna sniff the air or commune with the buffalo...?

(Using your... ingenuity; No offense taken!)

Hey. Y’all looked great in your pixelated little internet call. It was so nice to talk to you.

And that’s why today I don’t really have much more to tell yas.

Subject line because we went to the Mercado Mapuche, which was pretty indigenous, if you know what I mean. I bought some stuff, and saw a lot of really neat things, like such as instruments, ponchos, sweaters, hats, blankets, jewelry, and just about anything you can think of. We’ll be going back another day, so If there’s anything you’d like lemme know that’d be great, thx. but seriously I’m always like, "This would be so perfect for ____!.......or maybe not??" So, just tell me the truth.

Also this week, we worked with Leonardo, who still doesn’t seem to understand that going to church to renew sacred covenants will bless him more than playing soccer with his amigos. But that’s okay. I think the Lord will help him find an answer if he really starts to pray about it. Other than that, he’s doing super great! He really likes the Book of Mormon and always asks if we can read together and leave a chapter for him to read. It’s probably because it’s so inspired. I love the Book of Mormon, and I love that it has answers to LITERALLY every question we might have.

mmmhmmm. That’s ‘ere thing.

PHOTOS: at last I have some stuff for you!

Can you bake a pie? (well neither can I...)

Lost in Translation

"Te quiero mama....." (I love you, mom) or rather
"I want you Mom" :])))
Happy Mother's Day!

And that is why direct translations never don’t work. The which will go to make it so that the skype the Sunday will be diverting.

This week, the Hermana Hansen and I we worked our little buns off. Literally, we touched doors for all the day everyday. :) What diversion. But it’s okay, because we met a lot of people, and learned a lot about how to introduce the same old gospel in new ways.

But in the Mulit-zona I did see the Hermana ELLIS!!! My best companion of the CCM!! She looks great. (Also that’s Elder Toros...... He’s Chilean.)

There are 2 chapels in the city of Victoria, which is just about the same size as Providence and has 2 different Ramas. We work in the Rama of TOLHUACA.

This week in my studies of the Book of Mormon, I read about the people of Limhi and the People of Alma (the older), and it really surprised me how each group had the same problem, being slaves to the Lamanites, and they solved their problems in similar manners, the only difference being the people of Limhi had to do everything themselves, and the people of Alma when they put their whole faith in the Lord, were freed through a miracle, all they had to do was wait and trust in God. This doesn’t mean that we will always be delivered from our problems if we do nothing, but I know that when we put our whole faith in God, He has the best solution. I don’t think this made as much sense in words as it did in my left side brain. sorry. The Book of Mormon is true.

See y’all in like 9 monthsish

Dueces
-Hermanerm Mern

PHOTOS: The chapel of Tolhuaca is the most Cuico (kwi-co) or like, nicest/richest, chapel I’ve seen in Chile. I was like, "Wow, are they gonna put a temple here or something?" The answer is, um... no. probably no.

Here’s our room. hee hee... "It’s a bit of a mess, isn’t it?" (Said in my best Paul voice) I’ll be looking for more normal, or not so normal things to send photos of.

All grood in the hood

Mom's note: we didn't get a letter this week, so I. . . well. . .hacked into Noelle's email and found this draft. :)

This week:
We decided to go "off roading" and discovered a nice *cough*rich*cough* little neighborhood. Which we promptly contacted. Obviously. We're missionaries people. It was a beautiful day to visit the country.

For your informations: -Tolhuaca is my sector. It's just the other side of the tracks fromVictoria. Quite literally. bien flaite, si sabes que estoy diciendo...But not to worry. My companion is Hermana Hansen. She's from Taylorsville, Utah and studied at UVU.

[Noelle's update, 8 May 2018]

(HAHAHA MOM DON’T KILL ME BUT THIS IS THE LETTER THAT DIDN’T SEND LAST WEEK BECAUSE #GHETTOMACHINES)

The photo of the beehive is in the church in the room of the Young Women, I thought it was kind of cute.... maybe the cutest thing I've seen in Chile. :)

The good news is we’re landing soon.

The bad news is.... we’re crash landing. [from Madagascar 2]

Oh ye of little faith. Could ye not watch with me one hour? Thanks for your prayers, and I’m sure it’s all very inspired, but Hermana Salmerón and I finished our time together. so sad. It was weird to leave Cabrero, and mostly leave my companion there. But it’s okay. the mission is like that. SOME VERY CRAZY STUFF HAPPENED.

It all began when Hermana Salmeron was a little very sick with influenza. Then for some reason she decided to faint in the shower. And great was the fall thereof. She definitely dislocated her right knee. Like, a lot. so we called a member and drove to 3 different hospitals all of which said, "Why on earth would we have service for an emergency??"
But it’s fine. We finally found a consultorio and she got some x-rays and she is now resting in peace.
BUT NOT BEFORE WE TOOK 4 BUSES AND BORROWED A WHEELCHAIR AND ALSO CRUTCHES TO GO TO A CHAPEL OPEN HOUSE 3 HOURS FROM OUR SECTOR. What a treat. lemme tell ya. She will be resting for quite some time.

But now I’m living in Tolhuaca/Victoria, in the South. What the--? it’s cold out here. Suddenly. But no worries I have many coats of one color. And my new companion is Hermana Hansen. My first Gringa companion! She’s pretty cool. I think we’re going to get along just fine. Turns out we’re like the same person. She even lived in the Branbury for a hot second. What a small, crazy little world.

This week I was reading the scriptures. Mostly Isaiah. Which is even more difficult in Spanish, just so you know. But I like it a lot. Our challenge as a mission is to read the scriptures and mark the words of Christ.... Isaiah is a whole new level of challenge. It’s interesting to read and re-read the words of the prophets, and then discover that "whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants it is the same. Sooooooo maybe I should just mark all of the Book of Mormon??? I dunno. I just know the Book of Mormon is fabulous.

I’m done. Kay bye.

P.S. The 1 of May is a holiday in Chile, so the cibers will be closed, probably. See you all..... Wednesday maybe.

WHAT YEAR IS IT???

This week....

It’s now been 8 months. I’ll see you all in like 10 more months. Pls wait for me if you’re gonna do anything fun cause I have FOMO [fear of missing out].

Our investigator Eugenia had a confrontation in her Libro de Mormon with a spirit? Maybe THE spirit... Because she found 2 Nephi 31: 5,17 marked up rull good but her Book of Mormon is brand spankin’ new (Testificamos of this). Also she had a lot of questions/ doubts about Baptism and when she read this she said, "uh oh. I think I have to pray now."

Also, we went to Salto de Laja. It’s pretty neature. Lots of water, if ya know what I mean.

We did other stuff.... But darn it I just can’t remember anything... :/
Ines and Humberto are so ready for their wedding, we’re teaching some other people, but we’ll just have to wait and see how it all turns out... or if they turn up...
Feel free to pray for Isidora. (Remember her?)

Oh yeah, we still don’t know Cambios. Use all the energy of heart to fill your prayers with our companionship. I believe in you, people.

We’re reading in the Book of Mormon as a companerismo and mission and I think It’s pretty good. 10/10. Would recommend. God speaks to his people. Sometimes I love Nephi, and sometimes, I just want to beat him with a rod?? but I love that he speaks and teaches with clarity. I dunno why but this time 2 Nephi 5:16 made me laugh. "Our temple was like the temple of Solomon. Well, kind of. Not quite as nice, but, still pretty good. 3/5. C+." Hey, have you read Isaiah? It has exactly the most confusing and deeply meaningful words of Christ. Maybe give it a try?

Heads up our P-days will be changing. As of April 24, we will have P-days Tuesdays. Please adjust your lifestyle accordingly.

I’m Hermana Baer, and this is Insanity. Peace OUT.

The rocks are.......weird. But the waterfall was pretty.

We went to lunch one time. They´re pretty cool, this family.

Out of the frying pan and into the Baptism by Fire!

(I made that last part up myself.)

one......milion things happened this week.

Tuesday, we went back to the registro civil to finish the job and help our best investigators and now members (spoiler alert) Jose and Catalina get hitched. Turns out, the grumpy man lied to us and I totally can be a witness at weddings. So I witnessed rull good at their ceremony this time.
They’re the greatest.

As we were traveling back to our sector on the bus, they turned to us and said, "Uh, Hermanas? Can we get baptized this Saturday?" and we said, "Hmmmmm.... I dunno, let’s see.... well.... Yeah okay. if you insist." And so it was that the insanity began.

Also the rama wanted us to organize a celebration for them. So we did.

Also the assistants called us the same day as the baptism and said, "Hermanas, you have to have everything in your apartment packed and ready and also find a place to live so that you can move out of your apartment today. :) "
Don’t worry, because later the elders called us again and said, "ha ha false alarm. you’ll just need to be ready to move in May."

Also I died of stress, but I lived and everyone got baptized and also confirmed. Good things do happen.

Their party was beautiful, thank you very much, and they were just so happy and content and filled with the spirit. My favorite part was their daughter, 12 years old, who was baptized about 6 months ago, who began to weep just after Jose was baptized, "¡Que emocion!"

So.... now that it’s all over we’re working like normal missionaries again. Eugenia is gonna pray for her baptismal date. feel free to pray for her as well.

We’re reading the Book of Mormon in 2 months as a mission, and marking all the times that we read the words of the Lord (p.e. asi dice el Señor:...) we love the Book of Mormon. It’s probably the word of God for his children in the world today and stuff.

Hermana Salmeron and I are besties. She’s crazy and amazing and we’re working our foreign buns off. Will we have 1 more cambio together? Tune in next week to find out....
(pls pray that sí pls thx bae :]]] )

Photos: They’re the best, and tiniest people I know. Also they have twins. :)

It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times*.

(*References this Simpson's episode)
Wasn’t it just too cool for school to listen to a prophet? How many times did you say, "what now??" It’s like the church is true or something. I dunno. weird.

Today was crazy times. We went to the secret wedding of our best friends and investigators José and Catalina to be testigos (of the wedding, and not to be confused with Testigos de Jehova). But turns out, for what had better be a divinely inspired reason, I couldn’t "legally" sign as a witness...sooooo while everyone else went into the ceremony I had to wait outside, even in outer darkness where there is weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth. Suddenly all the parables in the scriptures about weddings make a lot more sense...
But it was supes crazy because I had to wait alone. like, really REALLY alone because my companion was a witness and was inside while I was outside. and I had a tiny panic moment. But it’s fine. I’m fine. I called the Mission President’s wife, and she said I wasn’t sinning in that moment.

But it’s okay because now that they are hitched they’re going to be baptized. pronto people. muy pronto. I can feel it in my nuggets. Y’alls prayers are so great. I dunno how you do it. Keep up the gr8 work, Hamstray.

And if you want you can pray for these people also:
-Eugenia
-Jose y Catalina (hee hee pls)
-Ines y Humberto
-Francisca (and maybe Ariela)
-Victoria
-Chile, maybe?
The train of the work of the lord never stops. Even in India, Russia, Chile, and Layton. (Respectively).

Bendiciones y saludos a todos.
Nos vemos.
-Hermana Baer

"Whooo is that gourd I see??"
It’s me. So that you can all participate in the shame, I now weigh 10 pounds more than when I left sweet sweet free country USA. It’s like I’m pregnant with twins and a bunkbed.
